Former Clarkston resident Peter L. Coomer entered into Heaven with his Lord and Savior April 22, 2012 of Lewy Body Dementia.
Born December 6, 1934 to Reginald and Hilda Coomer in Axbridge, England, Peter moved to Canada as a young man, where he met and married Vera Wilson May 23, 1959 in Toronto.
Peter and Vera moved to the United States in 1967, living in Chula Vista, California until 1976.
They then moved to eastern Idaho to follow Peter’s engineering career and raise their young family in Idaho Falls and Rigby from 1976 until 1995.
Upon his retirement from Argonne National Laboratory, Peter and Vera settled in Clarkston, Washington, where they enjoyed the mild year-round golfing weather and friendly community.
After Vera’s death in July 2011, Peter relocated to Spokane, Washington to be closer to his daughter.
Peter was a member of the Congregational Presbyterian Church in Lewiston, Idaho, and enjoyed walking his dog, tending his yard and playing golf.
He received the greatest joy from spending time with his 13 grandchildren, who treasured sharing Peter’s love of soccer, golf and fishing whenever they came to visit.
Survivors include three sons, Ian and wife Michele Coomer of Meridian, Idaho, Simon and Lisa Coomer of Marysville, California, Mark and Beverly Coomer of Baker City, Oregon; a daughter Elizabeth and husband Lee Shepard of Spokane Valley, Washington; eight grandsons, Tristen and Zachary Coomer of Meridian, Idaho, David Shepard of Spokane Valley, Washington, Paul and Corbin Coomer of Marysville, California, Luke, Aiden and Quinn Coomer of Baker City, Oregon; five granddaughters, Natalie and Jillian Shepard of Spokane Valley, Washington, Amanda Coomer of Marysville, California, Rachel and husband Aaron Richards of Baker City, Oregon and Dorothea Coomer of Baker City, Oregon; a great granddaughter Arianna Richards of Baker City, Oregon; four sisters, Joan Collings of Canada, Dorothy Moga of Detroit, Michigan, Winifred Dixon and Pat Prater, both of England and two brothers, Richard Coomer and Christopher Coomer, both of England.
Peter was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Vera Coomer, his parents, two brothers, John and Reginald and one sister, Betty Gamble.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Quality Inn, 700 Port Dr., Clarkston, Washington.
The family warmly invites all who knew Peter and Vera to come and share fond memories of their times together with the family.
