Darlene Muriel Schau was born September 20, 1934 in Medford, Oregon to Ernie and Ruby Dickes.

After the family made several moves around the country from Las Vegas, New Mexico where Darlene worked in the family drive-in restaurant to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho where Darlene met Jack and were high school sweethearts.

The family finally landed in Spokane, WA.

Darlene was crowned Miss Coeur d’Alene in 1949 and received a full ride scholarship to the University of Idaho where she was to further her vocal music career.

Darlene worked for the President of the University of Idaho as his secretary while Jack completed his degree.

Darlene spent the next several years raising her sons, Ed and Bill and working at Jones & Mitchelle Insurance Company (for 32 years).

She was a great friend to many, including her friends from Jones & Mitchelle and the Veradale United Church of Christ.

Darlene was extremely proud of her three grandchildren Ben, Brieanne and Madisen.

She never missed Brieanne and Madisen’s volleyball games and always kept track of Ben’s football career.

Darlene was the faithful leader of the family even after being diagnosed with cancer four weeks ago.

She was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Jack; sons, Ed (Kathy) and Bill (Debbie); grandchildren, Ben, Brieanne, Madisen and her sister, Janie.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 12th at 11:00am the Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 N. Progress Road, Veradale, Washington.
