Centenarian
Edna E. (Coffey) Nickell is celebrating her 100th birthday today. She was born May 8, 1912, in Omak, Wash. She is a resident of Fairwinds Retirement Home and has lived in Eastern Washington her entire life.
Nickell met her husband, Frank Nickell, in Pateros, Wash. They were married in 1934. He died in 2002.
Nickell’s most rewarding life achievement is being a stay-at-home mom. She is the oldest member of the Northside Church of Christ.
Nickell credits her long and healthy life to never smoking or drinking alcohol and always eating healthy.
When asked what has been her most memorable moment in the last 100 years, Nickell said man walking on the moon.
Nickell has three children: Rae Eccleston, Anaconda, Mont.; Bill Nickell, Seattle; and the late Larry Nickell. She has nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and six great-great- grandchildren.
