Obituary: Evans, Joan K.

Age 71

EVANS,
Joan K.
(Age 71)

Passed away May 28, 2012, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born in Spokane, Washington, to Lester and Pearl James on September 17, 1940.

Joanie had a great passion for education, life, nature and family.

She taught for many years in Spokane School District 81.

She earned her PhD in education from Gonzaga University in 1994.

She used her knowledge to help educate so many others along the way.
She was small in stature, yet so much larger than life.

As she would say, “Big things come in small packages, like dynamite.”

Joanie was most comfortable surrounded by nature, spending time at Coeur d’Alene Lake, the Pacific Ocean, and the family ranch.
After retiring she continued with her love of education, tutoring many children.

She lived life at her speed and the way that she wanted, spending a lot of time with her sons and her two favorites - her grandsons, Sean and Levi, along with her black lab dogs.
Joanie is survived by her sons, Steve (Denise) of Kila, MT, and John (Karen) of Rockford, WA; grandsons Sean of MT and Levi of WA; sister Barb LePard; and long-time companion Davey Lockard.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012, 11:00 AM at Guardian Angel Homes, 23102 E. Mission, Liberty Lake, WA.

Memorial contributions can be sent to Alzheimer’s Association, 910 W. 5th Ave., Ste.

256, Spokane, WA 99204.
