M’s spend, on scoreboard

The Seattle Mariners announced they will install the largest scoreboard video screen in the major leagues at Safeco Field during the offseason. The screen, debuting for the 2013 season, will cover the same area as the old scoreboard but the display itself will be 201.5 feet wide and 56.7 feet tall, the Mariners said. At 11,425 square feet the new screen is nearly 10 times the size of the current one. The team said the viewing area will be the equivalent of about 2,182 42-inch flat screen TVs. The Mariners say the entire high-definition board can be programmed to show live action or video replays or be split into sections displaying graphics, animation and statistical data. The Mariners estimate the entire cost of the project at $15 million.
