Portland Pair Weds During Marathon
Couple who met during the race 5 years ago decides to tie the knot during this year’s even

A Portland, Ore., couple decided that running 26.2 miles wasn’t impressive enough, so the marathon runner tied the knot mid-race.
Eric Johansson, 37, and Katie Holmes, 35, veered slightly off course at the 20-mile mark of the Portland Marathon to exchange vows in front of friends and family in a quick ceremony in Portland’s Columbia Park. After a quick celebration, the two continued on to finish the remaining 6.2 miles of the race.
A friend of the couple, Matt Brehm, explained: ‘Eric was sitting down watching everyone run by. Katie stopped mid-track; she was running the marathon and said, “Eric?
The couple stayed in touch and soon started dating.
NPR also has a report on the story.
For their special day, Holmes donned a white tank and shorts with a short veil attached to her cap; Johansson opted for a technical T-shirt with a tuxedo graphic.
Future runner brides, however, might want to check Oiselle’s “Runaway Bride Dress,” a performance dress that combines active features like a hidden fuel belt alongside wedding necessities like a ring pocket and bouquet holder. Though, like this pair, it’d help to be northwesternly located, as the dress is custom designed and produced in Oiselle’s Seattle studio.
