Seven area golfers selected for Hudson Cup
Seven area golfers – three amateurs and four pros – have been selected to play in the Hudson Cup golf competition next weekend at Inglewood Golf Club in Kenmore, Wash.
Dylan Maine from Freeman, a former Community Colleges of Spokane standout, will represent the Washington State Golf Association on the 10-man amateur team that includes five golfers each from Washington and Oregon playing against a team of Pacific Northwest Golf Association pros in the 64th annual Hudson Cup.
The pro team includes Manito assistant Corey Prugh, the former University of Washington standout who finished second in Hudson Cup qualifying points for the pros; Chewelah head pro Jason Pitt; and former Spokane resident and University of Idaho standout Ryan Benzel, now of Seattle.
The competition also includes the 21st Senior Hudson Cup with Kent Brown from Colville and Doug Potter of Coeur d’Alene on the amateur team. The senior pros include Mark Gardner from the Creek at Qualchan, who finished fifth in the senior pro qualifying points.
In 2011, the amateurs defeated the pros for the first time in 33 years, 10 1/2-9 1/2, while the senior pros prevailed by the same score in the Ryder Cup-style competition.
