Simple Green Style
5 easy ways to have an eco-friendly wedding

Including eco-friendly elements in your big day doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice a ton of money, time or style. Use one or all of these five simple suggestions and your event will be chic, unique and 100-percent Earth-approved.
Invitations
Consider seal-n-send invitations - they double as their own envelopes which naturally saves paper, says Kate L. Harrison, founder of GreenBrideGuide.com and author of “The Green Bride Guide: How to Plan an Earth-Friendly Wedding on Any Budget” (Sourcebooks, 2008).
Another option is to “recycle” the RSVPs - after guests have returned the cards, repurpose them as escort cards. The names are already on there, so all you have to do is add a table number.
Attire
Harrison suggests letting your bridesmaids choose the dress of their choice (in a color you select) to ensure they will wear it again. And, after the wedding, you can resell your own dress or donate it to a charity like Brides Against Breast Cancer.
Rings
Conserve resources and avoid “conflict” gems by purchasing gorgeous vintage rings or bands made with recycled gold, says Angelica Weihs, founder of the Los Angeles-based eco-conscious wedding planning company, Angelica Weihs Events.
Bouquets & Centerpieces
Instead of using cut flowers, opt for whimsical arrangements made entirely from herbs, fruits or vegetables arranged in jars, and then use this produce the next day for your brunch, says Weihs.
However, if your heart is set on blossoms, Harrison recommends having your florist design a minimal number of centerpieces and then having each bridesmaid place her bouquet in an empty vase after the ceremony to fill out the décor.
People-Movers
In addition to choosing a location close to public transportation, set up a carpooling page on your website to help guests get to the wedding, says Harrison. “This will save them money and decrease the carbon footprint of your whole event.”
