Frances Evelyn (Graves) Hurd passed on July 24, 2012 in Spokane, WA.
Born in Peoria, Illinois on September 10, 1921, she spent most of her early years in Wenatchee, WA.
Following graduation from high school in 1939, Frances bravely boarded a train bound for Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.
After graduating from a two year program, she enrolled in WSC in Pullman, where she earned a Home Economics degree in 1943.
In her Junior year, Frances had met her future husband on a blind date.
She and Neil settled in Rockford, WA.
in his childhood home.
They shared fifty-three wonderful years of married life.
Neil lovingly described Frances as “the consummate homemaker and the best investment in happiness we have.”
Frances excelled in cooking, entertaining, sewing, crafting, and leading Camp Fire Girls.
She and Neil enjoyed traveling and sharing their time at Lake Chelan with family and friends.
Frances was Neil’s constant companion during his dedicated years of service at the Rockford Methodist Church, Lions Club, American Red Cross, and The United Crusade.
Frances is survived by her three daughters: Linda Goodner (Steve) of Spokane, WA; Judy Stephens (Phil) of Spokane, WA; Diane Kilpatrick (John) of Stevenson, WA.
Other survivors include eight grandchildren: Jeff, Todd, Meghan, and Melissa Goodner; Michael and Patrick Stephens; Scott and Mark Kilpatrick.
A service in honor of Frances’ life will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 3:00 in the United Methodist Church, 217 S. First Street in Rockford, WA.
Following the service, there will be a celebration and a light meal served at the Hurd home.
