Obituary: Gilmartin, Sonja “Toni”
After graduation she moved to Great Falls Montana where she met her husband Denton.
They married in May of 1960 and ended up back in Spokane by 1964 where they raised four children.
Toni spent her life helping others.
She worked as a school nurse and was active in the PTSA.
She loved serving her community, volunteering at the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant for several years.
Toni was a talented seamstress, making dolls, sewing costumes and clothing as well as knitting and quilting.
She enjoyed bowling, card games and classic film.
Toni gave much of her life to her love of theatre.
She worked for over 30 years at both the Spokane Civic Theatre and the Spokane Children’s Theatre.
She served as treasurer, stage manager, and prop mistress.
You could also find her renting costumes or selling concessions and tickets.
She worked for the Northwest Regional Children’s Play Festival as well.
In 2008 the mayor and City of Spokane presented Toni with a lifetime Achievement award for her dedication to the arts.
Toni is preceded in death by her husband Denton J. Gilmartin, son Kip A. Gilmartin, and daughter Cheryl C. Strauss.
She is survived by her son Patrick D. Gilmartin and daughter Wendi T. Babcock, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Toni’s life touched everyone she met; she was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great- Grandmother, Friend and Teacher.
Toni will be truly missed.

Memorial Service will be held at the Spokane Civic Theatre, 1020 N. Howard St. Spokane, on April 27, 2013 at 07:00PM.
