Washington’s biggest fire half contained

Associated Press

WENATCHEE – Washington’s biggest wildfire is now half contained, as crews resume work on a fire line on its western perimeter.

The Colockum Tarps fire has burned across 125 square miles south of Wenatchee. Managers say crews are conducting burnout operations in the steep, forested draws where it’s burning, essentially using fire to fight fire by depriving the main blaze of fuel.

It’s expected to take another three to four days for crews to finish the remaining 3 miles of fire line and contain the fire.

Near Goldendale, the Mile Marker 28 fire was 82 percent contained Saturday.
