Staff And Wire Reports

LAS VEGAS – Ryan Gray finally had a good payday and Tyson Durfey finally had a payday in the fourth round of the National Finals Rodeo on Sunday night.

Gray, a bareback rider from Cheney, rode Kattie Katie to an 84.5 to finish second, good for $14,723.56. It also moved him up to sixth in the average. Jessy Davis of Power, Mont., won the round with an 86 on Raggidy Ann.

Colbert’s Durfey, who dropped to 15th – and last – in the tie-down roping average after a no-time on Saturday, placed fifth, winning $4,807.69.

Six-time season champion Cody Ohl tied for first in tie-down roping for his second straight victory. Ohl, from Hico, Texas, matched Ryan Jarrett of Commanche, Okla., with a 6.9-second run in the fourth round.

Grand Coulee bull rider Shane Proctor was knocked out of the lead in the average. He rode Jitter Bug for a score of 80.5, which wasn’t enough to place in the money. J.W. Harris won the go-round and has 262.5 points for his three successful rides, four points ahead of Proctor.

Team ropers Riley and Brady Minor of Ellensburg finished well down but are still sitting third in the average.

In steer wrestling, two-time season champion Dean Gorsuch of Gering, Neb., won in 3.1 – the best time ever in the fourth round. He broke the mark of 3.2 set by Mike Smith in 1990.
