Readers hold fond ice skating memories
Seeing this January 1940 photo of skaters on the old Liberty Park in Spokane caused reminiscing about the places our readers liked to ice skate when they were children. Here’s a sampling from Facebook:
It’s sad that there aren’t more public skating rinks in neighborhood parks. We lived to ice-skate back in the day.
We would freeze over our backyard near St. Charles Church.
Loved to skate on the pond in Manito with big fire going in old rock fireplace. We’d head there after getting out for the day from LC. Great memories. Cannon Hill was fun, too.
Our backyard off Rockwood Blvd & Sherman Ave. Dad would ice-over our sport court in back yard & lots of neighbor kids would come by for skating, sliding around or a pick-up hockey game. Loved the cold winters in Spokane!
Don’t forget the sledding hills!
We use to make an ice rink by Chester Hills pool in the Valley. So much fun!
We skated on Liberty Lake when we lived on the lake in 1978/79, was clear and smooth when first froze that year.
