The ‘Hottest’ Sports Cars

Be on the alert if you own a late-model Chevrolet Camaro, which tops the list of most-stolen sporty cars according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau in Des Plaines, Ill. The NICB says 1,509 Camaros from the 2010 through 2012 model years were stolen over a four-year period, which accounts for a full 40 percent of all performance models pilfered. Next were the Chevy’s closest rivals, the Ford Mustang (980 units) and the Dodge Challenger (782 units). The rest of the top 10 include the Porsche Panamera, Audi A5/S5, Chevrolet Corvette, Nissan 370Z, BMW 6 Series, Porsche 911 and the Volkswagen Eos. At that, the number of stolen sporty cars is slim compared to the theft rates of higher-volume models like the Honda Accord, which accounted for 58,596 stolen units during 2012 alone. That means whether there’s a Camry or a Corvette in the driveway we all need to take the necessary precautions to prevent our cars from being targeted by thieves.
