Mead upsets G-Prep

The Mead boys basketball team overcame 22 turnovers on its home court to upset the visiting Gonzaga Prep Bullpups 44-35 on the final night of Greater Spokane League action.

The Panthers (10-10 overall, 9-9 league) opened a 20-12 lead in the first half. The Bullpups (15-5, 14-4) rallied in the second half but couldn’t get closer than five points.

The Panthers, as the fourth seed, travel to No. 3 Ferris in a District 8 loser-out game Saturday at 8.

Brandon Peterson led Mead with 13 points. Sam Dowd led G-Prep with 14.

Central Valley 71, Mt. Spokane 55: The Bears (19-1, 17-1) outscored the Wildcats 24-14 in the fourth quarter at Mt. Spokane. The Bears play host to Gonzaga Prep on Saturday in the District 8 title game. Tipoff is at 8. Austin Rehkow led CV with 26 points, making five 3-pointers, while Beau Byus added 13. Chris Reis led Mt. Spokane (7-13, 6-12) with 14 points, Tanner Kissinger had 11 and Jeff Pierce added 10.

Shadle Park 69, University 66 (2OT): The visiting Highlanders (11-9, 10-8) pulled out a postseason tuneup win at U-Hi. Skyler Kelley led Shadle with 22 points and Alvin Welch and George Pilimai had 11 each. Brett Bailey led U-Hi (13-7, 12-6) with 26 points and Ben Kuiper had 12.

Ferris 60, Lewis and Clark 30: The Saxons (15-5, 13-5) used defense to turn away the visiting Tigers (8-12, 6-12). The Saxons held LC’s leading scorer, Dean Richey, scoreless. Cody Benzel and Jensen Rye led Ferris with 11 points each and Beau Lockmer had 10. Connor Hojnacki led LC with 13 points.

Rogers 94, North Central 44: Amaujae Daniels scored a game-high 33 points to lead the Pirates (4-16, 3-15) past the visiting Indians (0-20, 0-18). Melik Hampton had 19 points and Carson Murray 13 to support Daniels. Rogers opened a 51-21 lead in the first half.
