Savage turns away USC offer
LOS ANGELES – John Savage will remain UCLA’s baseball coach, with a raise and a long contract extension, after USC tried to pry him away.
UCLA has offered to extend the national championship-winning coach’s contract through 2025, pending approval by the university’s board of regents, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations.
Savage was paid more than $300,000 annually, including bonuses, by the terms of his UCLA contract, which ran through 2017. USC’s offer was more than $1 million per year, which would have made Savage the highest-paid coach in the nation.
