Oil Kings drop Chiefs with big third period
EDMONTON, Alberta – Curtis Lazar’s big third period Friday cooled off the Spokane Chiefs.
Lazar had two goals and one assist during a span of less than 13 minutes as the host Edmonton Oil Kings (4-5-0-0) turned back the Chiefs 4-1 in Western Hockey League play.
Spokane (6-2-0-0, 12 points) led 1-0 until Edgars Kulda’s goal at 1:40 of the third period. Lazar scored the winner less than 3 minutes later, and added insurance at 12:03.
The Chiefs scored 1:56 into the game on Mike Aviani’s eighth goal of the season. Keanu Yamamoto and Mitch Holmberg assisted on the goal.
Holmberg leads the WHL with 22 points. Aviani has 15.
Eric Williams, who had been 5-0 in net for the Chiefs, made 27 saves.
Edmonton’s Tristan Jarry had 16 saves.
The Chiefs don’t play Edmonton again during the regular season.
