Obituary: Distad, Doris Virginia
Age 98
DISTAD,
Doris Virginia
(Age 98)
Was born in Wenatchee, WA August 6, 1915, Doris left this world October 3, 2013.
Doris came to Spokane in 1933 to attend Kinman Business College and has never left.
Doris left behind her son Roger Distad and daughter Arlene Hanson; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Doris and her husband Lloyd owned and operated Lloyds Sales and Service from 1943 to 1965.
She then worked for Rusans and Penney’s for many years.
Mom was a dedicated volunteer.
When we were in school it was Brownies, Cub Scouts, Girls Scouts, and Job’s Daughters.
She was a member of Spokane Associated Garden Clubs and competed in flower arranging.
She was a member of Quota Club and helped with their style shows.
She worked hard arranging many years of mushroom forays to Priest Lake for the Spokane Mushroom Society.
But I think Mom’s greatest satisfaction came with the 50 plus years she was with the Spokane Lilac Association helping with everything from selling buttons, traveling to neighboring states and towns and of course the Parade.
Lilac time came this year and we said they would go on without her and she said, “But will I go on without them.”
Deeply religious, Doris was a longtime member of 1st Presbyterian Church.
She attended many functions, volunteered in many positions, and was a member of Keenagers for many years.
Doris will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends that she made throughout her years.
Only a close family celebration of life will be held.
Memorial contributions may be made to Spokane Lilac Association, 3021 S. Regal Suite 105, Spokane, WA 99223.
