Obituary: Gilpatrick, Thomas S. M.D. Ob/Gyn
Age 88
OB/GYN Born at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, WA January 12, 1925, passed quietly at Spokane Veterans Home on Friday, October 18, 2013.
Thomas graduated from Lewis & Clark H.S., Harvard College and the University of Washington Medical School.
He served his internship at Madigan Army Hospital, Fort Washington.
His residency was at Barnes’ Hospital in St. Louis where he worked with Dr. William Masters.
His Harvard education was interrupted by his service in the Army Signal Corps during WWII.
Thomas married Audrey Simpson.
They were blessed with two children, Suesan and David.
Later Thomas was married again to Janet Majer gaining two daughters Dawn Saari and Annie Gilpatrick-Kopl and three granddaughters.
Thomas practiced medicine in Spokane, WA with Drs.
Wade Robinson and George Rice.
Seeing a need for education and affordable care in women’s health, Thomas helped to bring Planned Parenthood to Washington State.
He served as their director for years.
Thomas enjoyed various athletic pursuits, Baseball and Football in his youth; golfing, waterskiing, snow skiing, into his sixties.
He raced a hydroplane the “Quick Delivery” for several years, going as far as the U.S. National Championship in Florida.
An avid bridge player he played regularly at the B.O.F and the V.F.W.
He also was a great Cougar football supporter beginning with his father in the 1930s attending games until 2011.
He loved many and was loved by many.
His memorial service will be held at Hennessey Smith Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division, at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 27, 2013.
