Pick 6

When I started predicting high school football games at the newspaper 20 years ago, the format we used was yours truly taking on a guest picker each week.

In a way we’ve come full circle. Beginning this week and through the playoffs it will be the Scribe against the Talking Head. That bald-headed mug attached to this feature belongs to KHQ/SWX sports director Sam Adams.

Sam and I are teammates now as part of nwprepsnow.com. Each week we’ll tape a segment that will be seen on SWX on Wednesday evenings at 10:30. A print version of our picks will be in the newspaper every Thursday.

So join us as we have a little fun.

University vs. Mead

(Tonight, Joe Albi Stadium, 7:15)

Lee: Mead 30-17. Panthers want to make early statement that they’re in hunt for league title.

Adams: Mead 21-14. Panthers prevail in defensive contest.

Lewis and Clark vs. G-Prep

(Friday, at Gonzaga Prep, 7 p.m.)

Lee: G-Prep 30-13. Both teams have plenty of skill players but the Bullpups have more.

Adams: G-Prep 28-13. Bullpups don’t rebuild they reload.

Ferris vs. Central Valley

(Friday, at Central Valley HS 7)

Lee: CV 27-20. CV was arguably the hottest team in the league at the end of the season a year ago and that momentum should carry over.

Adams: CV 31-24. Adam Chamberlain is the difference for the Bears.

Freeman vs. Colville

(Friday, at Colville HS, 7 p.m.)

Lee: Colville 34-20. The Scotties could be the best in the NEA and the Indians will be among the best in GNL.

Adams: Freeman 21-16. Scotties finally get over the hump in opener.

Sandpoint at East Valley

(Friday, at East Valley HS, 7)

Lee: EV 27-20. The Bulldogs will be much improved in second year in coach Satini Puailoa’s return but it won’t be enough Friday.

Adams: EV 24-13. J.T. Phelan and the Knights feelin’ good in Week 1.

Coeur d’Alene vs. Bothell

(Saturday, at UW in Seattle, 4)

Lee: CdA 32-20. The Viks like playing in the Emerald City Classic. They beat Moses Lake at CenturyLink field a couple of years ago.

Adams: Bothell 41-35. QB Ross Bowers leads Bothell in high-scoring shootout.
