Obituary: Sands, Victor “Vic”
Age 68
Named for England’s victory in WWII, Victor began his unique journey as a foundling and joined the Sands family at age five.
With a new brother, he enjoyed rural life in English villages taking part in school sports and had a brief stint in a skiffle band.
As a teen he fell in love with horses and became a steeplechase jockey.
Throughout his childhood Vic dreamed of coming to America.
In 1969 he crossed the ocean and traveled many states before settling in Spokane Valley in 1981.
Vic served in the US Army and trained in procurement; this led to a 27-year career at Hewlett-Packard/Agilent.
During his working years Vic developed many life-long relationships through work and soccer.
He married Christina in 1991 and together they raised two beautiful daughters.
Vic managed several of the area’s most competitive soccer teams and was well-known throughout the leagues.
In retirement he enjoyed meeting friends for breakfast, riding motorcycle, playing golf and soccer, kayaking, river-rafting, and watching with fervor his beloved Manchester United.
Vic had a zest for life and lived it fully, with passion and energy.
Far too soon he leaves behind his adoring wife, Christina; loving daughters, Cherne (Ryan) Haskell and Alaina (Keith) Banks; cherished grandchildren, Logan, Braden, Hailee, and Jake; brother, Keith (Sandra) Sands; niece, Lorraine Sands; and Sophie, his spirited terrier.
Vic is preceded in death by parents, Alfred and Edith Sands and nephew, Craig Sands.
Services will be held on Tuesday, April 29, at 1:00 pm at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA with entombment to follow at Pines Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Charities House of Charity.
