In brief: LeBron James delivers as Cavs win eighth straight

NBA: LeBron James scored 35 points, making the tiebreaking 3-pointer with 48 seconds remaining, and visiting Cleveland rallied to beat the Toronto Raptors 105-101 on Tuesday night for its eighth straight victory.

James’ jumper from the top of the key gave Cleveland a 102-99 lead and tied him with Mark Price for the franchise record for 3-pointers at 802.

James scored 10 points in the fourth quarter as Cleveland rallied from a 10-point deficit early in the period. Dion Waiters came off the bench for 18 points and Kevin Love added 17 for the Cavaliers.

Portland streak reaches five: LaMarcus Aldridge had 23 points and 11 rebounds, Wesley Matthews scored 19 points, and visiting Portland picked up its fifth straight victory with a 98-86 win over Detroit, which lost its 13th in a row.

Gasol, Conley lead Memphis: Marc Gasol scored 30 points, Mike Conley added 22 and host Memphis withstood 18 Dallas 3-pointers to beat the Mavericks 114-105.

Jazz beat Spurs to end nine-game skid: Derrick Favors scored 21 points, Gordon Hayward added 20 and Utah snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 100-96 victory over San Antonio at Salt Lake City.

Durant makes winning home debut: Kevin Durant scored 23 points in his first home game of the season, and Oklahoma City beat Milwaukee 114-101.

Russell Westbrook scored 28 points for the Thunder, who have won five of six after starting the season 3-12.

Bryant clutch at finish: Kobe Bryant scored nine of his 32 points in the final 3:14, leading the Los Angeles Lakers’ fourth-quarter comeback for a 98-95 victory over visiting Sacramento.

Louisville rips Indiana behind Rozier, Harrell

College men: Terry Rozier scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed six rebounds as Louisville beat Indiana (7-2) 94-74 in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.

The Cardinals (8-0) also got outstanding performances from Montreal Harrell, who had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

In the opener, Dylan Ennis scored 18 points to lead No. 7 Villanova (9-0) past Illinois 73-59. Malcolm Hill scored a career-high 20 points for Illinois (7-2).

Arizona routs Utah Valley: Freshman Stanley Johnson’s 14 points led a balanced attack for No. 3 Arizona (9-0) in the Wildcats’ 87-56 win over Utah Valley (3-5) at Tucson, Arizona.

Shockers hand Seton Hall first loss: Ron Baker scored 22 points, Fred VanVleet added 18 points and eight assists and No. 11 Wichita State (6-1) defeated visiting Seton Hall (7-1) 77-68 for its first loss of the season.

Plekanec hits key goal in win over Canucks

NHL: Tomas Plekanec scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period to lead Montreal to a 3-1 victory over visiting Vancouver.

Brendan Gallagher and Max Pacioretty also scored for the Canadiens, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Pavelski scores twice for Sharks: Joe Pavelski scored two goals and host San Jose bounced back from a loss at Edmonton by beating the Oilers 5-2 in the back end of a home-and-home series.

Barclay Goodrow, Logan Couture and Brent Burns also scored for the Sharks, who have won five of six with the only loss coming on Sunday night.

Leafs, Bernier stop Flames: Jonathan Bernier stopped 32 shots, James van Riemsdyk scored the winning goal early in the second period, and host Toronto beat the Calgary Flames 4-1.

Blackhawks rally for seventh consecutive win: Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane scored in a shootout, and visiting Chicago rallied late to earn its seventh straight victory with a 3-2 win over New Jersey.

The loss spoiled the first NHL start for Devils goalie Keith Kincaid, who made 37 saves.

Liverpool out in Champions League

Soccer: Liverpool was eliminated from the Champions League when visiting Basel advanced to the final 16 with a 1-1 draw.

The five-time European champion fell behind after Fabian Frei scored in the 25th minute, and then had substitute Lazar Markovic sent off in the 60th.

Madrid completed the only perfect group-stage record of six wins after Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty started a 4-0 rout of Ludogorets Razgrad. It also set a Spanish record of 19 straight wins in all competitions.

U.S. schedule announced: The U.S. will play exhibition games next spring at Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Germany as it prepares to defend its title at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The U.S. opens the year Jan. 28 at Chile, and then hosts Panama on Feb. 8 at Carson, California, in a pair of matches before the Major League Soccer season.

Timbers add Borchers: The Portland Timbers shored up their defense with the acquisition of veteran center back Nat Borchers.

The trade for Borchers was one of several player moves the Timbers made on Monday during the league’s half-day trade window. Portland also signed Ghanaian goalkeeper Adam Larsen Kwarasey from the Norwegian Premier League, Colombian winger/forward Dairon Asprilla, and Brazilian defender Jeanderson Salvador Pereira.

Conlan, Thomas join hall of fame

College football: The late Shane Conlan of Penn State and Derrick Thomas of Alabama, two of the most dominant college linebackers of the 1980s, are part of a class of 14 former players and two coaches being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in New York.

The rest of the class is highlighted by TCU running back LaDainian Tomlinson, South Carolina receiver Sterling Sharpe and Southern California tackle Tony Boselli.

Patterson honored: TCU’s Gary Patterson is The Associated Press coach of the year in the Big 12 Conference.

Buckeyes’ OC named top assistant: Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman is the winner of the Broyles Award, which is given to the top assistant coach in college football.

The Buckeyes went 12-1 this season and lost two starting quarterbacks to injuries.

Steer wrestler Jones gets first NFR win

Rodeo: Steer wrestler K.C. Jones moved up in the world standings and the National Finals Rodeo standings by getting his first win of the event.

Jones, of Decatur, Texas, won round six in a time of 3.5 and improved to second in the NFR aggregate standings with a time of 28.30 on six head.
