Announced American forward Abby Wambach has been voted CONCACAF’s Female Player of the Year and Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas was honored as Male Player of the Year. The governing body of soccer in North and Central America and the Caribbean announced the award Tuesday.

• Tottenham says United States defender DeAndre Yedlin will join the club in January, six months earlier than expected. The London club reached an agreement with the Seattle Sounders in August for Yedlin to join ahead of the next Premier League season, but now wants him earlier to allow him to adapt. The 21-year-old became the first MLS home-grown player to appear at a World Cup.

• Major League Baseball’s average salary shot up to more than $3.8 million following the steepest rise since 2001. According to final figures from the players’ association, the increase put big leaguers on track to top the $4 million barrier for the first time next year.

Finalized Pitcher Jake Peavy and the San Francisco Giants have finalized a $24 million, two-year contract. Peavy will receive a $4 million signing bonus, $7 million next season and $13 million in 2016. The contract includes a full no-trade provision and award bonuses.

Agreed Reliever Jordan Wald en and the St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to a $6.6 million, two-year contract that avoided salary arbitration. The 27-year-old right-hander gets a $350,000 signing bonus and salaries of $2.5 million next year and $3.5 million in 2016 as part of the deal.

• Catcher David Ross has agreed to a $5 million, two-year contract with the Chicago Cubs, reuniting him with batterymate Jon Lester. Ross often caught Lester in Boston the past two seasons, including both of the left-hander’s starts in the 2013 World Series victory.

Died Former NBA player Paul Walther, who played six seasons in the NBA in the 1950s after a stellar college career at Tennessee, has died in Atlanta. He was 87. Walther played from 1949-50 to 1954-55 for the Minneapolis Lakers, Indianapolis Olympians, Philadelphia Warriors and Fort Wayne Pistons. He scored more than 2,800 points for his career. He started for the West in the 1952 All-Star game.

Released San Diego State says senior forward Dwayne Polee II has been released from the hospital and is at home resting less than 24 hours after he collapsed on the court during a game. Polee can resume normal activities but has not been cleared for basketball.
