Education Notebook: STCU Hundred Dollar Project winners include Mead students

St. George’s School’s 11th- and 12th-grade Math is Cool team of Jerry Chu, Kenneth Day, Michael Thew and Jennifer Wang won the Masters Elite Division Championship in Moses Lake on Dec. 6. Math teacher Judson Ford said this is the first statewide elite-level title for a St. George’s Math is Cool team.

Chu also earned first place in the individual calculus competition.

The school’s ninth- and 10th-grade team of Connor Cremers, Anna Nowland, Kyle Luiten and Yao You took 12th place overall.

Cremers also earned second place in the individual geometry competition.

Sunset principal recognized

Sunset Elementary School Principal Matt Beal has been selected as one of 18 regional Distinguished Principals for the 2014-15 school year. Beal will now be considered for the state’s Distinguished Principal Award. The winner of the state award will serve as the nominee for the National Distinguished Principals Program.
