Prep roundup: Reardan holds off Chewelah’s late rally for Lions Club tourney championship
Kamille Langford made a pair of free throws with 2 seconds left and the Reardan girls basketball team survived Chewelah’s second-half rally in a 49-48 win in the Lions Club Tournament title game Saturday in Reardan.
Langford finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds, and her free throws snapped the Cougars’ three-game winning streak.
The Indians’ (7-2) Maddie Johnson led all scorers with 23 points.
Chewelah (3-6), which rallied back from a nine-point halftime deficit, got a combined 24 points from Kaitlyn Krouse and Maggie Cobb.
Boys basketball
Lakeside (WA) 49, Archbishop Murphy 45: Ryan Quigley scored 20 points and the Eagles (8-1) edged the Wildcats at the Yakima SunDome Shootout in Yakima for their eighth straight win. Cameron Gay, Spencer Reynolds and Dominique Watson added eight points apiece for Lakeside.
University 66, Black Hills 56: Austin Dill scored 18 points, Ethan Oliver had 15 and Robert Little added 11 as the Titans (6-2) topped the Wolves at the Yakima SunDome Shootout in Yakima. Black Hills’ T.J. Mickelson led all scorers with 33 points.
Wellpinit 64, Davenport 57: Jason Holt scored 19 points and dished out eight assists as the Redskins (6-2) used a hot start to get past the Gorillas (3-6) in the Lions Club Tournament title game in Reardan. Wellpinit’s Triston Andrews added 14 points and 11 rebounds and Brandon Flett chipped in 12 points and four blocks. Nathan Hopkins and Austin Zeller scored 18 points apiece for Davenport.
Reardan 73, Chewelah 58: Brandon Reuben hit seven 3-pointers and scored 36 points as the Indians (5-4) defeated the Cougars (1-8) at the Lions Club Tournament in Reardan. Dan Peone and Kody Weddle added a combined 25 points for Reardan. Eli Hubert led three Chewelah players in double figures with 12 points.
Riverside 51, White Rock Christian 32: Andrew Kramer scored 15 points and the Rams (7-0) dominated from the outset in a win over White Rock Christian in a Surf ’N Slam Tournament opener in San Diego. Riverside’s Jesse Anselm added 13 points and Tyler Axtell chipped in eight points and six assists. The Rams will play San Lorenzo Valley (California) on Monday.
Wrestling
Shadle Park, led by senior captain Kyle Vinson and T.J Trout, won the 21st annual M2 Mallet tournament at Rogers.
Vinson (182 pounds) and Trout (160) were two of six weight-class champions for the Highlanders. The other Shadle Park winners included Ryan Farrell (132), Bryden Uyehara (152), Keaten Tarr (170) and Ryan Burnette (195). Trout was named the outstanding wrestler for the tournament.
University was second and Ferris was third.
• Freeman had four weight-class champions and claimed the team title at the 16-team Freeman Invitational in Freeman.
Hunter Nees (106), Billy Sims (170), Markus Goldbach (182) and Sebastian Hyta (195) all won for the Scotties. Sims’ win came against teammate Preston Hoppman.
Camryn Schon of Lewis and Clark won at 145 to help the Tigers take second, while Cameron Conner (126), Wyatt Davis (132), Drake Ferguson (152) and Jace Malik (285) all won titles for third-place West Valley.
