Sounders win in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – Seattle Sounders FC ended its Arizona portion of preseason training Sunday with a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Camp invitee Kevin Parsemain and veteran Andy Rose provided the goals as Seattle broke to a 2-0 lead. Carlyle Mitchell got the lone goal for the Whitecaps in the 78th minute of the match, which was divided into three 30-minute periods.

Seattle coach Sigi Schmid started a lineup of goalkeeper Stefan Frei; defenders Michael Azira, Jalil Anibaba, Damion Lowe and Zach Scott; midfielders Sean Okoli, Rose, Fabio Pineda and Marco Pappa; and forwards Chad Barrett and Parsemain.

Reserve goalkeeper Josh Ford went the final 30 minutes.

The appearance marked Pappa’s debut with Seattle.

The Sounders went 3-0-1 in Arizona before flying home Sunday afternoon. Seattle outscored its opponents 6-3.

The Sounders will resume training at Starfire Sports in Tukwila, Wash., this week before leaving Feb. 19 for three games at the Carolina Challenge Cup in Charleston, S.C.
