Shuey propels Mt. Spokane in Legion tournament
Kyle Shuey went 4 for 4 – with a pair of home runs – and Mt. Spokane exploded for eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to turn a close game into a rout with an 11-2 six-inning victory over Montesano in a AA American Legion state tournament game on Monday at Whitworth.
Shuey drove in three runs and scored three times to send Mt. Spokane into today’s quarterfinal game against Yakima Valley at 4 p.m. at Whitworth.
Riley Robinett (2-0) went the distance for Mt. Spokane to earn the victory. Robinett allowed two runs – one earned – on four hits. He struck out three and walked two.
In an elimination game at Al K. Jackson Field, Eastlake scored runs in five straight innings, including solo runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, to pull out an 8-7 win over Gonzaga Prep.
Eastlake advances to play Chehalis tonight at 7 p.m. at Jackson Field. Centralia and Asotin square off in today’s other quarterfinal game at Jackson Field at 4 p.m. Kennewick plays Anacortes at Whitworth at 1 p.m. in the final quarterfinal game.
