Weekend promises beautiful weather

Some of the nicest weather of the spring is in store for the next several days with plenty of sunshine and highs in the middle 70s to about 80.

The low air pressure that brought thunderstorms to the region Monday and Tuesday has long departed.

The Inland Northwest lies in a calm area between major weather features along the West Coast in what forecasters call a west-to-east zonal flow.

Today’s weather should be sunny with a high of 75 in Spokane and 73 in Coeur d’Alene.

Temperatures warm up again as the weekend approaches with highs near 80 in Spokane by Saturday and the upper 70s in Coeur d’Alene.

Lows are likely to be in the upper 40s and lower 50s in the region’s urban areas.

Sandpoint should see plenty of sun and warm weather, with highs going from 73 today to the upper 70s on Saturday and Sunday.

The Colville Valley will be a couple of degrees cooler.

Pullman should see 72 degrees today with temperatures warming to the middle 70s.

To the west, highs could be in the lower 80s through the period.

West winds on the east slopes of the Cascades were expected to die down by today.

Some clouds are likely to cross the region at times, especially on Friday when a weak pulse of lower air pressure crosses the region.

Any showers from that small system would be confined to the highest mountains of Northeast Washington and North Idaho.

Temperatures at 5,000 feet in elevation should run from the lower 60s during the day to the middle 30s at night.

The next chance of showers in the Spokane area is on Tuesday.
