Summer rebounds

Skies are clearing off today and should mostly stay that way into early next week.

Temperatures are expected to quickly rebound to the upper 70s today to about 85 on Sunday.

Overnight lows should be mild, as well, with temperatures dropping to the lower and middle 50s.

Spokane saw 1.15 inches of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday with some of the heaviest rainfall occurring before dawn on Wednesday.

The low pressure system that brought the rain was moving off to the east to be replaced by a weak high pressure system on Thursday.

Another low over the Gulf of Alaska is expected to stall offshore through Sunday, putting the region under a southwest flow aloft with the warmer temperatures.

Forecasters said that even though the region will be on the southeast edge of the Alaska low, the weather should remain relatively dry with small chances of afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the mountain areas to the north and east.

In North Idaho, temperatures will be warm as well, but a few degrees cooler than Spokane. Fog is possible in North Idaho this morning from all of the moisture left behind by this week’s rain storm.

The Columbia Basin will see highs solidly in the 80s with Tri-Cities going to 89 by Sunday.

The mountains of North Idaho should see highs in the 50s today and 60s on Friday through Sunday with lots of sunshine and lows in the 40s. Shower chances are confined to the northernmost reaches of the mountains.

The Cascades will have a chance of showers Thursday night and Friday with mostly sunny skies Saturday and Sunday. Highs should be in the 60s at 4,000 feet with lows in the 40s.
