Announced The college football playoff selection committee will release a weekly top 25, starting Oct. 25, and panel members will be required to recuse themselves when a school they work for comes up for discussion. The selection committee will use the same voting procedure and recusal policy as the committee that chooses the 68-team field for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

• The NBA owners’ advisory/finance committee will hold a meeting today to discuss the next steps in the removal of Donald Sterling as owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. Commissioner Adam Silver also said he would urge owners to use their power to force Sterling to sell the team. That would require the support of three-fourths of the league’s owners.

• President Barack Obama is supporting the NBA’s lifetime ban against Sterling. The president called Sterling’s secretly recorded comments “incredibly offensive racist statements.”

Myles Turner, one of the top high school basketball players in the country, said he will play at Texas, giving the Longhorns a lineup that could challenge for the Big 12 title next season. The 6-foot-11, 225-pound center from Trinity (Texas) High School was a McDonald’s All-American last season, averaging 18 points and 12 rebounds and nearly seven blocks per game.

• Before the horses sprint from the starting gates, the Kentucky Derby crowd will hand over millions of dollars in wagers. Gamblers lucky enough to pick the right colts will be getting a little less back. Churchill Downs is taking a bigger cut of the money bettors place on its races.

Retained New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration retained a key sports business legal expert to assist in the state’s bid to prevent the Buffalo Bills from relocating. Irwin Raij, who played a key role in negotiating the Bills’ 10-year lease, is staying on to represent the state’s interests in securing the franchise’s long-term future following the death of owner Ralph Wilson.

Agreed Mogul Donald Trump agreed to buy Turnberry Resort in Scotland, famous for its Ailsa Course that has hosted the British Open three times. Turnberry is the 17th golf property owned by Trump, and it is sure to bring the American developer his first major championship.

Suspended Jockey Rosie Napravnik will serve a four-day suspension after she rides in the Kentucky Derby. Churchill Downs stewards punished Napravnik for her role in the disqualification of Bayern from first to second in last weekend’s Derby Trial.
