Chiefs save best for last, beat Everett

EVERETT – The Spokane Chiefs picked a perfect time to post their season high in goals.

Taking on second-place Everett on Saturday, the Chiefs quickly erased a two-goal deficit with four unaswered goals in the third period and beat the Silvertips in Western Hockey League action.

Spokane trailed 4-2 after the second period, but third-period goals by Adam Helewka, Calder Brooks, Markson Bechtold and Jackson Playfair put the Chiefs on top for good.

The game-winner was scored by Bechtold with just more than 3 minutes left in the game. It was his second goal of the season.

Helewka opened the scoring with a goal late in the first period, but Everett gained the upperhand with three second-period goals. Spokane’s Colton Bobyk scored for Spokane in the second period.

Everett fell to 12-2-2-1. The Silvertips are 1-2 against Spokane this season. The Chiefs’ previous season-high in goals came in a 5-4 win in Everett on Oct. 22.

The Chiefs improved to 8-5-3-0 and are 6-1-2-0 within the U.S. Division.

It doesn’t get any easier for Spokane. The Chiefs will host league-leading Kelowna on Tuesday.
