Pirates in first after beating Whitman

Whitworth earned its ninth straight Northwest Conference win, a four-set triumph over Whitman in Walla Walla that gave the Pirates sole possession of first place.

Scores were 25-23, 15-25, 25-9, 28-26.

Cassandra Mendoza led the Pirates (16-5, 9-2 NWC) with 15 kills, while Brenna Bruil and Nicole Leonard added 14 kills apiece.

Women’s soccer

Rashelle Fisher and Hannah Sanders scored two goals apiece as Community Colleges of Spokane beat host Yakima Valley 6-0. Macknzie Welch and Lexi Miller also scored for the Sasquatch, and Samantha Burmester made three saves for the shutout.

• North Idaho College and Treasure Valley Community College played to a scoreless tie in Ontario, Oregon. Cassy Van Der Mey made four saves for the Cardinals.

Men’s soccer

Adam Talley scored twice to help NIC beat host Treasure Valley 4-1. Diego Diaz Sanchez and Braden Ridgewell added goals for the Cardinals.
