CV beats Mead, captures GSL title

Kelsey Turnbow scored in the 10th minute and Central Valley secured the Greater Spokane League title with a 1-0 win over Mead on Friday at Mead.

The Panthers (9-6, 6-3) will host University on Thursday in the first round of the District 8 4A tournament.

Central Valley (13-1, 8-1) has a first-round bye.

Mt. Spokane 2, Gonzaga Prep 1: Whitney Weaver scored twice, including the go-ahead goal in the 60th minute, and the Wildcats (12-3, 8-1) edged the Bullpups (8-5, 5-4) at Mt. Spokane.

Tayler Drynan scored Gonzaga Prep’s goal in the 50th minute.

Mt. Spokane will play the winner of the Shadle Park-North Central district match next Friday to determine seeding to the 3A regionals.

University 1, Lewis and Clark 0: The Titans (10-3, 6-3) beat the visiting Tigers (9-5, 5-4) 5-4 in a shootout.

University will face Mead in the first round of 4A districts on Thursday, with the winner advancing to the district title match.

Ferris 6, Shadle Park 1: Maison Stults scored twice – once in each half – and the Saxons (9-5, 4-5) dumped the visiting Highlanders (4-9, 2-7).

The Saxons finished sixth among 4A schools in the GSL standings and will not play at districts.
