Announced Argentine club San Lorenzo will name its new stadium after its most famous fan: Pope Francis. The new stadium will be built on land seized from the club during the 1976-83 military dictatorship.
• Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr is recovering from a mild stroke. A statement from Starr’s family and the Green Bay Packers said Starr is making progress and that doctors expect a full recovery.
• LSU coach Les Miles said receiver Travin Dural “will play” against UL-Monroe on Saturday despite injuries from a car accident last weekend. Miles said Dural returned to practice after missing the first couple of practices of the week because of what the coach called a “soft tissue injury” to Dural’s forehead which required stitches.
Canceled A scheduled meeting between Atlanta Hawks CEO Steve Koonin and Atlanta civil rights leaders has been canceled, leading one of the leaders to say his community was greatly offended. The request for the meeting followed racially charged comments by Hawks co-owner Bruce Levenson and general manager Danny Ferry.
Paid The University of Alabama fan who pleaded guilty to poisoning Auburn University’s landmark oak trees has paid only $99 toward restitution. Circuit Judge Jacob A. Walker III ordered Harvey Updyke to pay restitution to Auburn University totaling $796,731 in December 2013.
Scheduled World-record holder Wilson Kipsang will make his New York City Marathon debut in November. The Kenyan set the mark of 2 hours, 3 minutes, 23 seconds in Berlin last year. That sets up a showdown with countryman Geoffrey Mutai, the two-time defending champion and course-record holder in New York.
Revealed Ferrari president Luca Di Montezemolo will leave the company next month amid a disappointing season by the flagship Formula One team. Fiat-Chrysler Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne will take on the Ferrari job in the immediate term.
