Feedback: Filling empty commercial spaces

News that a wine tasting room and jazz club would be opening in the Chronicle Building in downtown Spokane made us wonder what other empty commercial spaces people would most like to see filled downtown, and with what type of business. Here’s a sampling of the responses from Facebook:

David Tremblay

Ridpath filled with low rent apartments for the less fortunate.

Ann Foreyt

Turn the first floor of the Ridpath into a Trader Joe’s/other small grocery store.

Michael Olson

The fenced off space at the corner of 3rd and Division, and with anything other than the eyesore that has been there way too long.

Tom Norton

2nd floor above old City Hall on Wall with an artist collective including studios, lessons, art shops

Denise Wheeler

The old Costco warehouse on 3rd: Turn it into an indoor farmer’s market; a safe house for teenagers; a homeless shelter; a transfer center for Valley commuters.

Geoff Scanlan

Far West Billiards with Far West Billiards

Amanda Gill

The Ridpath. With anything.

Ryan Boddy

We need a vegetarian/vegan restaurant.

Quincy Williams

A youth center for the kids so they have something positive to get into.

Ella El

I would love to see an area with inexpensive studios for artists to work and show their work. It could bring a large tourist trade to the area like the French Quarter in New Orleans. It has to be cheap though because us artists are pretty broke.
