Mitchell ‘doing fine,’ remains in hospital

From Wire Reports

Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell fainted Tuesday and is still hospitalized, but she is “doing fine,” her spokeswoman said.

A 911 call was made after Mitchell lost consciousness, her representative told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday, adding that the folk music legend is undergoing tests to determine the cause of the incident.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, one of the closest hospitals to Mitchell’s Bel-Air home, declined to confirm or deny that she was there. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, also nearby, did not return calls seeking comment.

Mitchell, 71, was one of the most prominent musicians to come out of the seminal 1960s Laurel Canyon music scene, which included the Doors; Neil Young; Crosby, Stills & Nash; Carole King; the Eagles; and the Mamas and the Papas. Since then her music has inspired and been covered by artists including Prince, Bjork, Janet Jackson, Steely Dan and Chaka Khan.

Barker drops in on ‘Price is Right’

It was a sight for sore eyes: Celebrated game show host Bob Barker returned to “The Price Is Right” on Wednesday to host a portion of the show for April Fools’ Day.

It was as though the 91-year-old Barker had never left the CBS show.

When current host Drew Carey was introduced, Barker walked out instead, suited up and ready to go with his microphone. The audience went nuts.

“What a welcome,” Barker said. “I have never had a welcome like that.”

Barker said he was hosting a portion of the show because he was selected to be its April fool.

“I know the world is full of fools, but I am a carefully selected fool,” he said.

Barker started hosting “The Price Is Right” in 1972 and retired from the job in 2007. On Wednesday’s show, he handled the first item up for bid and the subsequent game, Lucky $even.

Carey resumed hosting after the first commercial break.

Movie on marathon bombing planned

CBS Films said Mark Wahlberg is set to produce “Patriots’ Day,” a feature film about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing based on Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis’ firsthand account.

The studio announced Tuesday that Matt Charman (“Bridge of Spies”) is writing the screenplay, which will span the five-day investigation and hunt to apprehend the suspects.
