Sidelined The Miami Heat have ruled rookie guard Shabazz Napier out for the remainder of the regular season after he underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia on Wednesday. Napier, who played in 51 games this season, is the third Heat player to see his season end early, along with center Chris Bosh and forward Josh McRoberts. Bosh will not play until next season because of blood clots on a lung, and McRoberts is still rehabilitating after knee surgery.

Agreed Guard Jabari Brown has agreed to a multiyear contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Brown has appeared in 10 games for the Lakers while playing under two 10-day contracts last month. He has scored 9.4 points per game with 1.7 assists, 1.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals. He scored a career-best 22 points in a win at Philadelphia on Monday.

• Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobson has agreed to stay with the Panthers for another decade. Northern Iowa spokesman Colin McDonough says Jacobson and the school have agreed to a contract extension through 2024-25.

Announced Kansas swingman Kelly Oubre Jr. announced he is leaving for the NBA draft, skipping his final three seasons of eligibility after an up-and-down freshman year. The 6-foot-7 guard started 27 games this past season, helping the Jayhawks win their 11th straight Big 12 title. He averaged 9.3 points and five rebounds.

Extended Xavier coach Chris Mack got a one-year contract extension through the 2020-21 season after leading the Musketeers to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament for the third time in his six years. The Musketeers are 134-71 under Mack, the third-most wins by a Xavier coach.

Injured South Africa’s Tim Clark will miss the Masters next week as he recovers from an elbow injury. The 39-year-old Clark was runner-up to Phil Mickelson at the 2006 Masters.

Changed America’s Cup teams have voted to reduce the size of boats to be sailed in the 2017 regatta in Bermuda, a cost-cutting move that could lead to the two strongest challengers dropping out. In a statement, organizers said only that a majority of teams favored the move from 62-foot catamarans to cats in the 45- to 50-foot range. It’s believed Italy’s Luna Rossa and Emirates Team New Zealand voted against the proposal. Luna Rossa said last week it “will be obliged to withdraw” if the length was changed. Team New Zealand supported the Italians.
