Returning state placers

Boys: 4A – Nick Johnson, Gonzaga Prep (110 hurdles, 7th; high jump, 6th); Bryan Anderson, Mead (300h, 3rd); Jack Bamis, GP (long jump, 7th). 3A – Khalil Winfrey, Rogers (200, 5th); John Dressel, Mt. Spokane (1,600, 3rd; 3,200, 3rd); Tanner Anderson, North Central (1,600, 4th; 3,200, 2nd); Andrew Vandine, NC (1,600, 5th); Jacob Lionello, MS (discus, 5th); Trevor Payne, MS (discus, 6th); Jakobe Ford, Shadle Park, transfer from Central Valley (hj, 4th).

League outlook

The Mt. Spokane boys snapped Mead’s string of six straight league championships last year. The Wildcats are given a slight edge in what could be a four-team chase with Mead, Ferris and Central Valley. In the girls, defending champ CV has too much depth to be challenged. But keep an eye on Lewis and Clark. Mead, Mt. Spokane and Ferris make a competitive middle pack.

Outlook

The Medical Lake boys, defending state champs, are far and away the favorite based on their strength in the sprints and distances. The same with Lewiston, behind talented hurdler/ sprinter Zion Stuffle. The CdA girls, with their sprint, hurdle and distance depth, will run away with the regional title and challenge for a state trophy.
