Stone third at Augusta
Spokane’s Ben Stone, a seventh-grader at Sacajawea Middle School, tied for third at the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship finals Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club.
Stone, competing in the 12-13-year-old age group, finished with 19 points, sharing third with two others.
George Duangmanee, of Fairfax, Virginia, and Conner Willett, of Wellesley, Massachusetts, tied for first with 20 points. Duangmanee claimed first under the putting rank tiebreaker.
The 13-year-old Stone won the chipping competition, earning 10 points. He placed sixth in putting and seventh in driving among the 10 finalists. Stone advanced through three qualifying rounds to make the finals at the site of the Masters.
• Freeman High sophomore Ryan Maine tied for 10th place at the Futures Champions Golf Las Vegas Championship featuring 84 top junior golfers ranging from 15 to 18 years old. Maine had rounds of 69 and 76 to finish 1-over 145, seven strokes back of the champion.
