Declared Duke said freshman Jahlil Okafor will enter the NBA draft. Okafor led Duke (35-4) to its fifth national championship, a 68-63 victory over Wisconsin in Indianapolis on Monday. Okafor is the first freshman in Atlantic Coast Conference history to be named league player of the year.
• North Carolina said forward J.P. Tokoto will forgo his final season of eligibility to enter the NBA draft. The 21-year-old Tokoto averaged 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds during his three-year career with the Tar Heels.
Rested Los Angeles Sparks star Candace Parker will sit out at least the beginning of the upcoming WNBA season to rest. Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi said in February she is skipping the entire 2015 WNBA season after accepting an offer from her Russian club to rest. Parker is on the same team as Taurasi, but isn’t getting paid by UMMC Ekaterinburg to sit out.
Named Buffalo named Nate Oats the school’s interim head basketball coach while the Bulls look for a replacement for Bobby Hurley. Oats was Hurley’s top assistant and recruiting coordinator the past two seasons, helping the Bulls make their first NCAA Tournament appearance this year.
Required IndyCar officials are requiring engine manufacturers Honda and Chevrolet to make structural upgrades before this weekend’s Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana. Hired Hawaii hired former assistant Eran Ganot as the Rainbow Warriors’ basketball coach. Ganot is the 21st head coach at Hawaii, and the second youngest at the age of 33.
Announced Former Texas and Arizona quarterback Connor Brewer is headed to Northern Arizona. Brewer announced on social media that he will be joining the Lumberjacks next season, with two years of eligibility remaining.
