Obituary: Binder, R.E. Joe

Age 83

BINDER, R.E.

Joe Went home with the Lord on Tuesday, April 21st, 2015.

He was 83 years old.

He was born in Spokane on November 30th, 1931 to Joseph and Helen Binder.

He was the oldest child of six.

He graduated from high school and went two years to Gonzaga University.

He joined the U.S. Army.

He spent his early adult life working in his family’s foundry.

Later he started and co-owned the “Binder Adult Family Home” which is now the oldest licensed adult family home in Washington State.

Throughout the years he served as caretaker, the men who lived in his home were all treated as family and lived like family.

Several clients have lived in Joe’s home for over 30 years.

He loved spending time with his extended family, going to the lake, taking many trips to Hawaii and Canada, his visits to Europe, Mexico and North Africa.

He also loved working in his garden with his flowers and enjoyed his trips to the casino.

He was an outstanding cook and loved trying new dishes and enjoying a good glass of wine.

He preferred to live where he had a good view of the mountains and enjoyed the wildlife and feeding the deer outside his door.

At his home in Colville he had a majestic view from his mountain top and several deer who would eat out of his hand.

He was a strong practicing Catholic and loved his Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Joseph, his sister Marjory Markham, and his nephew Joey Binder.

He is survived by his partner of over 50 years, John; his brother Louie and Barb Binder, sister Rosalie and Howard Huhs, brothers William Binder and Francis Binder; many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews, including goddaughter Jennifer Schow; also his extended family, sisters Bev Hamilton, Bobbie and Terry Lund, and Billie Goodno and more nieces and nephews, including nephew David and Yvonne VanGelder who is the backup sponsor.

His client’s Steve Rummer, and Terry Hughes who have lived in his home for over 32 years and Robert Razey.

There have been several more who lived with him over the years.

Some have been able to leave and live on their own.

They all think of Joe as their immediate family.

It will be especially hard for them to adjust without him there.

He lost his twelve year battle with leukemia.

Funeral service will be at St. Aloysius at 330 East Boone, Tuesday, April 28th at 11am with interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 17825 E. Trent Ave., 2:30 p.m.
