Obituary: Newberry, Dr. Jerry
Age 70
Jerry passed away July 31st, 2015 at his home in Spokane.
He grew up in Childress, Texas graduating with honors from H.S.
in 1963.
He then attended Texas Tech Univ.
for his undergraduate work and first year of post graduate studies.
Jerry then attended medical school at the Univ.
of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, TX.
Upon graduation, he moved to Portland, Oregon to complete his internship.
He then returned back to Galveston to complete his two year residency and did a fellowship with Dr. Michael DeBakey, renowned heart surgeon, before moving to Spokane in 1975 and joining the Physician Anesthesia Group.
He met the love of his life, Diana at five years old.
They were married on August 26, 1967 in Childress, TX.
Together they loved exploring the outdoors and traveling around the world.
Their favorite trips included Paris, France, various fishing trips with family, and their annual visit to Hawaii.
Jerry practiced Anesthesia for 25 years in the Spokane area.
After retirement he became an ombudsman for the state to assist the elderly.
He was an active member of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church.
Jerry was also a member of various professional medical organizations.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Maurine Newberry and by Diana’s parents, Arthur and Ethel Veal.
He is survived by his wife, Diana of 47 years; daughter, Kim Gines and husband, Matt and three granddaughters: Mattea, Macey and Kaylin of Deer Park, WA.
There will be a service Friday, August 7th, 2015 at 10 am at the Christ the Savior Orthodox Church at 12407 E. 16th Ave in Spokane Valley.
Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park.
