Obituary: Butler, Louise K. “Tweedie”

Age 91

BUTLER, Louise K. “Tweedie” Passed away July 23, 2015 at the age of 91.

Her classy, charming demeanor and fun loving nature will be missed by all who knew her.

A family memorial service will take place.

Louise was born in Hilo, Hawaii on February 25, 1924 to Gilbert and Louise K. (Swain) Hay.

She was raised on the Big Island at Olaa Sugar Plantation where her father was assistant plantation manager.

Following graduation from Hilo High School in 1941, Louise attended Armstrong College in Berkeley, California.

Tweedie met Dwight Robert Butler, a fighter pilot, stationed in the Hawaiian Islands.

They were married August 7, 1943 and welcomed their first daughter in January 1945.

The family left Hawaii and moved to Colfax, Washington in November 1945 where Bob joined the family insurance business.

Another daughter and two sons were born the next four years.

During her 54 years in Colfax, Tweedie was very active in the community.

Tweedie and Bob enjoyed traveling within the United States and abroad after retiring.

They moved to a retirement home in Spokane in 1999.

Tweedie was a volunteer at Deaconess Medical Center for many years.

She is survived by a daughter, Ursula Anne Mabry (Vern), Redondo Beach, CA, a son, Carl J. Butler, Spokane, WA, daughter-in-law, Pamela S. Butler, Spokane, WA, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a sister.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, a devoted and loving husband of 69 years, Dwight Robert Butler, a daughter, Mary Louise Butler, son, Dwight Robert Butler Jr. and three brothers.

She will be laid to rest at the Colfax Cemetery in the Butler family plot next to her husband.

Memorial contributions in Tweedie’s honor are suggested to the American Arthritis Foundation or the American Heart Association.
