Obituary: Siegel, Eugene Edward
Age 81
He was born February 24, 1934 to Jerome and Dora Siegel.
Eugene married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Frasier Siegel and they were married for 53 years.
Phyllis passed away December 23, 2006.
Eugene later married Janet Johnson Siegel and they were married for seven years.
Eugene is survived by his wife Janet; daughter Kathy Siegel Chapin, daughter Kerry Siegel; sister Doris Carroll; brother Wayne Siegel; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eugene was born in Ione, Washington and grew up in Metaline, Washington.
He was active in high school and college sports.
He had the opportunity to play professional football, but instead pursued his military career.
There is a group of high school friends and spouses that have stayed close over the years meeting at least annually to this day.
Eugene was a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army and proudly served three tours in Vietnam.
After the war, he was the Head of the Military Police and Commander-In-Chief of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at Fort Ord, and the Presidio of San Francisco, California.
After retiring from the Army, Eugene moved to Eugene, Oregon where he continued employment managing and overseeing retirement centers until he retired full time.
He loved fishing and playing golf.
He also had a vacation home in Desert Center, California where he enjoyed the nice weather, golfing, and being with his wife, brother, sister, cousins, and other family and friends during the winter months.
He was also known for his extremely funny sense of humor.
He was a leader, so he could be strong when needed, but he was also a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
There will be a graveside service at the Metaline Cemetery, 324 Cemetery Rd, Metaline, Washington, on September 5, 2015 at 1:00 PM.
