San Jose beats Jacksonville 68-47 in ArenaBowl
Erik Meyer led San Jose to its fourth ArenaBowl victory, throwing four touchdown passes and running for two more scores in the SaberCats’ 68-47 victory over the Jacksonville Sharks on Saturday night in Stockton, California. The SaberCats became the first team in league history to finish a season with 20 victories and joined Arizona, Detroit and Pittsburgh-Tampa Bay as the only franchises to win four Foster Trophies. The SaberCats (20-1) made Darren Arbet the second coach in league history to win four ArenaBowls, and he did it in his home state before a sellout crowd of 9,115 at Stockton Arena. The game was moved to Stockton because the SAP Center in San Jose was unavailable. San Jose used opportunistic defensive plays to score 21 points in a 2:35 span to lead 61-33 early in the fourth quarter. – AP
