Man charged with murder of 14-year-old niece

SEATTLE – A Seattle man has been charged with murder in the death of his 14-year-old niece.

KOMO-TV reported 24-year-old Si Phu was charged with first-degree murder Friday.

Police were called Sunday to South Brandon Street on a reported shooting. They found 14-year-old Christy Phu suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities say she died at a hospital.

Charging documents say family members told police she was killed after refusing Si Phu’s demand to give him her shoes.

Documents say she and the victim’s cousin barricaded her bedroom door after the altercation but he returned with a gun, kicked in the door and shot her.

Christy Phu had been a freshman at Chief Sealth High School.

Phu remains in jail on $2 million bail.
