City of Moscow Arts Commission, the 1912 Center and Heart of the Arts Workshops Jewelry Embossing with Patricia Cassidy: Participants age 18 and older will learn the act of impressing a design onto a metal surface, and will learn to bend metal to the design of their choice on earrings or pendants. 6-9 p.m. Wednesday. $78, supplies provided. Basic Pastel Painting with Bonnie Griffith: Participants age 18 and over will learn the basics of pastel painting. Students provide their own pastels. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 14-15. $150. Experimental Pastel Painting with Bonnie Griffith: This workshop is for pastelists age 18 and older who want to take their work to the next level. Students will provide their own pastels. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 21. $125. Drawing in Color with Dana Aldis: In this four-session workshop, participants age 15 and older will develop their drawing skills and hand-eye coordination while working from observation (not photographs). Students will learn basic traditional drawing techniques such as line, structure, value/shading and cross-hatching, as well as composition. No experience necessary. All materials will be provided. Call for artists

Moscow Farmers Market 2015 Poster Contest – The deadline for submissions is March 30 by 5 p.m. The artist of the winning entry will be awarded $100. Only one entry per individual will be accepted, artists must live within a 200-mile radius of Moscow, Idaho. The jury will select two entries to be considered for the Moscow Farmers Market 2015 Poster. Both entries will be posted on the city of Moscow’s website and the public will vote April 6-13. 2015 Pend Oreille Valley Lavender Festival Poster Contest – The Pend Oreille Valley Lavender Festival is holding a poster contest. The winning artist will receive $300 commission and will be featured in the Festival Artist booth at the 2015 festival. Submissions are due by Thursday. The Writers Competition – The Coeur d’Alene Library is looking for writers of fiction and nonfiction prose to submit up to two entries of up to 2,000 words for it 27th Writers Competition.
