Men’s college basketball: North Idaho upsets No. 3

Austin Pope made the first of two free throws with 11 seconds left and North Idaho upset third-ranked and previously unbeaten Southern Idaho 69-68 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Twin Falls, Idaho.

The Golden Eagles’ Tyson Smith missed a potential winning 3-pointer with 2 seconds left to seal the Cardinals’ victory.

The loss snapped Southern Idaho’s season-opening 25-game winning streak.

North Idaho (18-6, 6-5) trailed by three at the half, but opened the second half on a 22-9 run, taking a 10-point lead on Jamaal Robateau’s free throw with 10:38 left to play.

The Cardinals’ Braian Angola-Rodas had 17 points and eight rebounds and Pope finished with 10 points and 10 boards. CSI (25-1, 10-1) beat North Idaho 78-64 on Dec. 13 and 80-72 on Jan. 17.

(18) Whitworth 67, Linfield 50: Kenny Love led four players in double figures with 19 points and the Pirates (18-3, 11-1) surged after halftime and topped the Wildcats (3-18, 1-11) in a Northwest Conference game in McMinnville, Oregon.

The Pirates outscored Linfield 35-15 in the second half. Whitworth’s George Valle added 14 points, Matt Staudacher had 11 and Forrest Baker chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

CC Spokane 81, Wentachee Valley 68: Race Martin led four players in double figures with a game-high 25 points and the Sasquatch (15-8, 5-3) built an 11-point halftime lead and beat the Knights (15-8, 4-4) in a Northwest Athletic Conference game at Spokane Community College.

CCS forced 20 turnovers and made 26 of 37 free throws.
