Obituary: Walkup, Harriet “Jewel”
Age 88
Jewel was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John, in 2010.
She now joins John, daughter Marilyn and granddaughter Angela with the Lord.
In 2011, Jewel returned to live in Kennewick where she and John raised their family for many years before moving to Spokane.
After retiring, they lived in Arizona and Chelan, Washington.
Jewel and John built a lake home on property at Lake Chelan that served as the gathering place for family and friends.
She was an avid gardener and created a massive Iris garden at their Chelan home.
She found joy in teaching the grandchildren to pick berries and fruit and her granddaughters how to bake.
Jewel loved spending time with her family and taking her grandchildren camping in their motorhome.
She and John spent many years touring the United States and making new friends During her time in Apache Junction, Arizona, she mastered new hobbies: water aerobics, ceramics, and Swedish weaving; she delighted her children and grandchildren by gifting them her creations.
Jewel is survived by her daughter: Diana Walkup, Kennewick, sons: John Walkup and wife Claudia, Kennewick; Bill Walkup and wife Kay, Spokane; Don Walkup, Covington; along with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jewel will be missed by all of those whose lives she touched.
A tribute to and celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later time for her family and many friends.
