Women’s college basketball: Eagles beat Grizzlies, complete sweep of Montana schools

Eastern Washington completed the Montana sweep on Saturday.

Two days after a narrow win over Montana, the Eagles erupted for 45 second-half points and beat Montana State 72-58 in a Big Sky Conference game at Reese Court in Cheney.

The win gave EWU (13-8, 6-4) a home sweep of the Montana schools for the second straight season. Jade Redmond led four Eagles in double figures with 22 points. She made 7 of 9 shots from the floor, both of her 3-pointers, and all six of her free throws.

The Eagles pulled away with a 16-5 run to open the second half.

Lindsay Stockton (Gonzaga Prep) tallied a team-high 22 points for the Bobcats (10-12, 4-7).

(17) Whitworth 68, Linfield 61: K.C. McConnell led four players in double figures with 18 points and the Pirates (19-2, 10-2) overcame an 11-point second-half deficit and beat the Wildcats (9-12, 3-9) in a Northwest Conference game in McMinnville, Oregon.

Whitworth forced 24 turnovers and finished the game on an 11-4 run.

The Pirates host fourth-ranked George Fox on Friday night. The Bruins routed Whitworth 70-39 in the teams’ first meeting on Jan. 17.

Montana 87, Idaho 74: Kellie Rubel scored 23 points and Maggie Rickman added 17 points and six assists as the Grizzlies (16-6, 9-2) surged after halftime and beat the Vandals (9-12, 3-7) in a Big Sky Conference game in Moscow, Idaho.

Montana outscored Idaho 50-26 in the second half to erase an 11-point halftime deficit. The Vandals’ Stacey Barr poured in a game-high 27 points and Ali Forde added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Wenatchee Valley 68, CC Spokane 56: Darian Gasseling and Shayla Johnson scored 13 points apiece and the Knights (14-7, 5-3) built an 11-point first-half lead and held on to beat the Sasquatch (13-11, 2-6) in a Northwest Athletic Conference game at Spokane Community College.

CCS’ Rayla Lohman scored 16 points and Khadija Neumeyer added 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Southern Idaho 65, North Idaho 58: Elisb Lopez Sagrera led a balanced attack with 12 points and 11 rebounds and the Golden Eagles (16-10, 7-4) edged the Cardinals (16-10, 4-7) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Twin Falls, Idaho.

NIC’s Panisesi Taimani tallied team-highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds.
